SOUTH DAKOTA SUPPORTERS AND OPPONENTS OF INITIATED MEASURE 28 CONTINUE TO GO BACK AND FORTH OVER THE IMPACT OF THE GROCERY TAX MEASURE.
OPPONENTS SAY THE MEASURE WILL HURT SOUTH DAKOTA’S BUDGET, A STATE THAT ALREADY HAS ONE OF THE LOWEST TAX REVENUES IN THE COUNTRY.
RICK WEILAND, THE CO-SPONSOR OF IM-28, SAYS THE MOVE IS AFFORDABLE WHILE POINTING AGAIN TO GOVERNOR KRISTI NOEM’S CAMPAIGN RECORD WHEN SHE ADVOCATED TO REMOVE THE SALES TAX ON GROCERIES.
THE BALLOT MEASURE HAS FACED CRITICISM FOR BEING POORLY WRITTEN MANY TIMES AND THAT THERE’S CLEARLY GOING TO BE SOME LOSS IN REVENUE THROUGH THE REPEALED SALE
