Open Letter to Kacey Musgraves
Congrats on making history this past weekend at Saturday in the Park! You were only the second country act to play the festival in 26 years! The free music festival has boasted some of the biggest names in music over that time but only Junior Brown has been in the country realm.
(SITP alum Michelle Branch comes close – she joined “the Wreckers” shortly after her time in Grandview Park)
I really believe you may have made some new converts in Siouxland that day. Your honest lyrics, sweet melodies and warm stage presence made the evening a special one. My youngest son was there for the occasion and this was his first foray into concert-dom. It was nice you shared the spotlight with your talented musicians in the band. That’s a move that oftentimes gets ignored by other artists.
Thanks for taking the time to meet with some fans before you hit the stage. That Tribe Kelly outfit looked super soft and comfy. I appreciate the fact you appear to be comfortable in your own skin and that’s a trait I’d love to pass down to my sons.
Saturday in the Park was such a fun, eclectic mix of talent this year. I’m not sure many concerts could brad about the diversity of having someone of your talent play the same venue as Kongos, The Wailers, Big Head Todd and Sir Mix a Lot.
I was really hoping for a Kacey Musgraves / Sir Mix a Lot duet. Now, that would be an awesome CMT Crossroads!
